School Information

Great Lakes Academy is an urban school chartered by Eastern Michigan University in June 1997. It opened its doors to 192 children, kindergarten through third grade, in August 1997. Great Lakes Academy is committed to providing the highest quality education in a safe, drug-free atmosphere focused on character development and academic achievement. In addition to the core curriculum, children regularly participate in art, music, gym along with Spanish and computer classes. The top priority in the goal to provide the best possible education for these inner-city children is integration of technology into the curriculum and the training, resources, and equipment to accomplish this. Great Lakes Academy believes access to resources beyond the school walls and focused use of software resources can greatly improve these children’s chances for academic success, thus equipping them to overcome tremendous socio-economic obstacles to success in the world of work.
